They include the five-meter-tall, pastel blue Big Step (2021), which takes the form of the Hermès Birkin bag, a contemporary symbol of prestige and wealth, and is personified with long elegant legs appearing to be walking purposefully.

Three sculptures from Wurm’s Bags series explore consumer culture and objects of status. Outdoors, 19 sculptures occupy the Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s heritage landscape, including new and never-before-seen works. Both playful and political, he uses ludicrous scenarios to address how we conform to society’s demands and how sculpture can upend cultural beliefs. Ultimately, Wurm’s work examines the true meaning and essence of a sculpture, stretching its boundaries while calling into question the value and importance we place on everyday objects. His work disrupts familiar and sensible perceptions, and in a process filled with humor and experimentation, he frequently reimagines commonplace objects by giving them human traits. As reflected in this show, Erwin Wurm consistently challenges the rules of sculpture, the limitations of the human body, and its relationship to inhabited spaces. More than 100 works are currently on display, including 55 sculptures indoors, 19 sculptures spread outdoors, paintings, photographs, videos, and drawings created over 30 years of the artist’s career, with several works shown for the first time ( see designboom’s introductory coverage here). Rounding out individual scores were Nathan Balch 76, Daniel Cook 86, Asher McKnatt 84, and Connor Sullivan with 54. With a team score of 454 Fredonia came in third place overall in their first ever state tournament. Mason Tomaszewski was awarded top gun and 1st place varsity with 98, Aidan Kinney was awarded 2nd place JV with 93, Ethan Willebrandt broke 90, Wyatt Bartoo broke 87 and Aiden Czekanski scored 86 contributing to the team score. Scores were based on the amount birds broke out of 100.
Bridgeport’s 27 trap houses fill an open flat field with a treelined background giving Fredonia’s team a distinct advantage. Fredonia Central School home field of Hanover Fish and Game Club has tested these students due to the difficulty of their home field. The tournament saw students use nearly 70,000 rounds challenging the students on their abilities. 687 students from 86 schools competed as a school and individually. On Saturday, the Fredonia Central School Trap Team competed at Bridgeport Rod and Gun club for the New York State trap tournament.
